EUROPE DEVELOPS DOOR-TO-DOOR INFORMATION SYSTEM
The concept of door-to-door planing is becoming increasingly important for today's traveler, and innovative solutions are now required to meet the growing public demand for multimodal transportation information. This article discusses EU Spirit - European System for Passenger Services with Intermodal Reservation, Information and Ticketing - a research project which aims to provide a user-friendly, internet-based, multi-modal information system, enabling travelers to plan their journey across Europe from departure point to final destination. At present, the EU Spirit consortium comprises partners from 7 European countries, with members including national railroad operators, local transit providers, regional authorities, system developers, and research organizations.
