THE NEW TECHNOLOGY R142 RAPID TRANSIT CAR FOR NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT
In July 1997, New York City Transit (NYCT) awarded Bombardier Transportation the order for the design and manufacture of 680 steel wheel/steel rail subway cars. These cars, designated R142, are intended to replace some of the older rolling stock operating the "A" Division of the NYCT Subway. The paper provides technical and performance information of the two models of the new R142 cars. These high technology systems will meet the performance requirements demanded by the specifications of NYCT, and will allow the systems to become the basis of what will be the new subway car technology.
