MOVING FROM DATA TO INFORMATION - NJ TRANSIT RAIL PASSENGER STATISTICS
This paper discusses rail passenger information used by New Jersey Transit (NJT), including industry/non-industry comparisons, and NJT's process of creating meaningful passenger ridership information by blending ticket sales and passenger count data. The paper examines the development and reporting of passenger statistics, the statewide public transit system in New Jersey, focusing on its commuter rail network. Although the paper is specific to NJT, the same techniques and applications can be utilized or refined for any transit mode.
