GATEWAY: THE "HIGH-SPEED WALKWAY"
High speed walkway brings a unique solution to move passengers in transit networks. This article describes a high speed walkway, the "Gateway", which is capable of transporting people at 7.5 miles per hour over a maximum distance of 1760 yards. The "Gateway" is equipped with an anti-bunching system which monitors the number of people exiting the system within a given time period by adjusting the speed of the entire system, and it can carry 13,000 passengers per hour without waiting time and on a continuous basis. It is a cost effective and reliable solution for metro line extension, or a link between two areas in a subway or an airport. The first operational unit will be installed in one station of the Paris Metro in France by the end of 2000.
