PASSENGER TERMINAL BAGGAGE HANDLING SYSTEMS
Baggage use is growing, but space is constrained, leading to management, technology, and systems issues in handling bags in, out, and through modern airports. These include: airport issues in handling transfer passengers and the need to integrate inter-terminal operations; airline issues in reducing errors, handling of early bags, and security; and systems issues in data coding and management, choice of technologies, systems interfacing across terminals, and accommodation within the construction process. In this paper, trends in passenger terminal baggage handling systems expected in the years 2000-2010 are presented. These trends are mainly based on space efficiency, and more accurate and better quality delivery.
