VIRGINIA SHEDS LIGHT ON WORK ZONES AT NIGHT
This article examines the adequacy of traffic control and safety conditions for road crews in night time work zones in the state of Virginia. A study was conducted by the Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC) to assess safety perceptions from the viewpoint of both motorists and transportation agency personnel. Although the data collected was insufficient to determine if night work zones are actually less safe than day work zones, the feedback of study respondents was important for identifying traffic control problems in night time work zones. Additional findings of the study are also reported.
