HOW ARTBA STRIVES TO IMPROVE ROADWAY INFRASTRUCTURE SAFETY
For the past 20 years, the American Road and Transportation Builders Association's (ARTBA) Traffic Safety Industry Division (TSID) has served as the ARTBA home for its highway safety product manufacturers, distributors, and related firms. The division's top priority is the reduction of transportation fatalities, injuries, and accidents. Through ARTBA, TSID promotes the importance of roadway infrastructure safety on a national level. TSID has established four task forces to address specific issues: strategic planning, product evaluation, intelligent transportation systems, and the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse. The Transportation Safety Advisory Council and TSID's involvement with the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices are important division activities. ARTBA's comprehensive approach to safety includes maintaining a dialogue through partnerships among the numerous parties involved in roadway construction, developing new approaches to occupational safety training, promoting the importance of road improvements for the safety of motorists, and frequently meeting with other public and private groups to gather new information and promote a vision of safety.
