SYSTEM PROGRAMME FOR IMPROVING OF ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
This paper discusses the Czech Republic and describes its road network. It traces the development of car ownership and the effect this has had on traffic volume and traffic performance on the roads. It reports on the relationship between car ownership and the increase in traffic accidents over the years; and the economic loss incurred by traffic accident injuries and fatalities. Recent developments in road safety activities noted include changes in the law - especially new speed limit laws, road traffic safety research, and international cooperation. The paper also introduces the System Programme for Increasing Road Traffic Safety.
