REPAIR OF A PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGE DAMAGED BY EXCESSIVE LOADING

REPARATION AV SPAENNBETONGBRO SOM SKADATS GENOM OEVERPAAVERKAN

The considerations of alternative ways of repairing or replacing the bridge are briefly presented and the reconstruction method finally chosen is described. Due to erosion the base of one bridge pier was badly undermined resulting in a measured settlement amounting to 1.7 M. This pier, parts of the girders and the deck had to be replaced. The existing prestressing steel was connected to the reinforcement of the reconstructed parts. Of vital importance for a successful outcome was the fact that the grout could transfer the tensile force from the tendons to the surrounding concrete also after the girders were severed. /TRRL/
