A NEW APPROACH OF HIGHWAY GEOMETRIC DESIGN TEACHING BY MULTIMEDIA (ABSTRACT ONLY)

Nowadays, through the use of current software for highway geometric design, metric geometry instead of analytic geometry has become more important. The use and the interrelation of the geometric elements must be taught, for promoting the alignment concept, with its criterion, objectives, conditioning factors and operational effects. Orthodox teaching methods must be reconsidered as the student becomes the main character. This new didactic requirement can be solved by multimedia. It allows us to associate graphically and easily the different realities: in situ, software design, computer simulation and the involved geometric elements. Conventional lecturing is replaced by a self-teaching methodology, by means of a fully consistent and stimulating interactive "new book" that audio-visually illustrates concepts and real applications.
