RAILWAYS AND LAND VALUES. IN: RAILWAYS. VOLUME 1

This article discusses the heart of the rural railway problem, the creation of land values, and some of the effects of the struggle over their disposition among landholders, railway entrepreneurs or departments, and governments. Simple models of railway economics are used to display the problem of public choice between state ownership and private land grants.
