AGV: THE NEXT GENERATION
The first articulated high speed train with distributed traction rather than power cars at each end is being jointly developed by Alstom together with French National Railways (SNCF). The prototype AGV cars are under construction and should be ready to start testing in March 2001. These cars will be able to reach maximum speed of 350 km/h (217 mi/h) with the same operating performance and cost as a 300 km/h (185 mi/h) train. AGV will also have 0% more capacity within the same length of train than a conventional TGV.
