FUNDAMENTALS OF LIQUEFACTION UNDER CYCLIC LOADING
The authors comment on data presented by discussers and which relate to analytical expressions for volumetric compaction strain, volumetric expansion strain, and pore water pressure as alternatives to the expressions for increments in these parameters given by the authors. The volumetric strains in a constant strain cyclic load test with gamma = 0.054 percent computed by the incremental and analytical approaches are illustrated. It is shown that the analytical expression underestimates the volumetric strains at the beginning of the test, and underestimates the strains at the later stages of the test.
