TRAVEL PATTERNS AND JOURNEY PURPOSE
In this article the authors examine the changes which have taken place since the 1950s to travel patterns, and the reasons why people travel. The dominance of personal travel by car and increasing journey length have been the most important elements in the growth of personal travel. Tables provide information on distance travelled per person per year by main mode and area, by mode age and sex, by household income, and by average length of journey by purpose.
