DESIGN OF A PORT CONTAINED HANDLING SYSTEM APPLIED A LINEAR MOTOR CARRIAGE AND EVALUATION BY A TERMINAL SIMULATION

Linear motor carriage is easy to automate and right-angled drive. As applied to container conveyancing, it contributes to efficiency and labor savings at a container terminal. A cargo handling system was designed using linear motor carriage, and evaluated by numerical simulations. The authors designed 3 types of cargo handling systems, which were the transfer crane (T/C) type, the contained silo equipped with overhead bridge crane (CS) type, and the container silo of linear motor carriage direct access (LDA) type. The following results were obtained: Linear motor specification required 7m/s speed and 1.5m/s2 acceleration; The cost is larger in order of LDA type, C type, T/C type and conventional type. The cost target of cargo handling machine was clear, in order to be same as the conventional type. It is possible to increase efficiency of stevedoring and carrying in or out, of all of 3 methods. But T/C type needs a long time for shift handling.
