CAR OWNERSHIP UPDATE (1997-2000)

This issue of Current Topics includes over 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on car ownership and usage. Subjects covered include statistics of present usage and forecasting models for predicting future ownership patterns; factors influencing ownership decisions, such as the effect of raised taxes and other costs and various initiatives being taken in many countries of the world to limit the use of the car - for example car sharing schemes and pricing measures. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1997 and 2000. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
