THE ITS BENEFITS AND COSTS PROGRAM AT USDOT
The ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has put several programs in place both to research what is not yet known and to communicate what is known about ITS technologies. This paper presents a comprehensive description of that communication effort. The feasibility of various ITS technologies was determined in the field operational tests conducted around the country. If the technology worked, its impacts could then be recorded. The National ITS Program, and hence this paper, classifies impacts into two categories: benefits and costs
