MATHEMATICAL MODELING AND SIMULATION FOR FORWARD-LOOKING COLLISION AVOIDANCE
This document presents the mathematical modeling and simulation that has been performed for forward-looking collision avoidance. Included under this topic are forward-looking collision warning systems, adaptive cruise control systems and forward-looking collision avoidance systems. The primary focus is on forward-looking collision warning systems or those systems that can eliminate or mitigate rear-end collisions. This document originated as part of the Task 4 Interim Report. The original development of the mathematical modeling and simulation is still included as a basis for recent refinements and to show the development history of mathematical models. Subsequent sections of this document focus on refinements in the mathematical modeling that have been made as the research has progressed.
