AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION
This report is from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) sponsored program, "IVHS Countermeasures for Rear-End Collisions". In this Interim Report (Volume V), preliminary performance specifications for the Automatic Control System (ACS) are developed and represented. Automatic Control Systems would take temporary control of the vehicle, such as braking and/or steering, to avoid a dangerous situation. These performance specifications are based on all activities and results of the contract to date. The report covers the applicable documents, system classification, requirements of the performance specifications for ACS, the qualification tests and definitions. The requirements section includes the system requirements, driver controls, and driver display.
