The Task 4 Interim Report of the Intelligent Vehicle Transportation Systems (IVHS) Countermeasures for Rear-End Collisions consists of six volumes. This volume, Volume I, "Background and Overview", presents background information, an overview of the framework used to analyze the rear-end collision problem, an overview of the human factors studies, and summarizes the mathematical modeling and simulation as well as presenting the preliminary performance guidelines.
