THE SAFETY OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES IN NEPAL AND INDIA IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF DEREGUATION AND PRIVATISATION
South Asian countries are characterised by rapid urbanisation, hi growth rates in traffic and congestion, decreasing regulation of public transport and increased privatisation of the sector. The majority of the population of such countries is dependent on publ transport services to meet their mobility needs. The needs for s efficient and effective public transport is essential to ensure adequate and affordable accessibility and the continuing sustaina development of livelihoods. This paper highlights the extent and causes of public transport road accidents in Nepal and India with the context of deregulation and privatisation of the sector and m recommendations to reduce both the severity and number of public transport accidents in the future.
