PROVINCIAL HIGHWAY FATAL ACCIDENTS

The objectives of this report are to look at the role of seat belts in reducing fatalities and how the roadway environment may have contributed to accidents or increased their severity. It displays selected photographs of 1975 fatal accidents to illustrate the roadside and seat belt factors. It provides an insight as to how roadway geometrics contribute to the severity of a motor vehicle accident and where possible recommnd countermeasures to reduce the accident severity. Safety belts are a proven means of reducing death and injuries due to motor vehicle accidents. This study illustrates only a few of the cases where safety belts would have been effective. /RTAC/
