STRATEGIC PLAN FOR IVHS/CVO IN OREGON

Since the mid-1980's the Department of Transportation and the Public Utility Commission have been developing and testing a variety of technologies to improve the operation and regulation of commercial vehicles traveling in Oregon. These technologies, known collectively as Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems or IVHS, are now mature enough to allow widespread deployment. The systems recommended in this plan will provide significant benefits for industry, government and the motoring public. Motor carriers will operate more efficiently government activities will be more effective and highway operations generally will be improved. This plan covers the first six years of a long range vision for improving commercial vehicle operations in Oregon
