MULTI-VARIABLE EFFECTS ON SEALING PRESSURE BETWEEN TYRES AND RIMS
Influences of tyre materials and rim geometry on contact pressure between tyres and rims were explored. Finite element models were used to characterize both inflated and deflected tyres and design of experiments was employed to examine significance of main effects of individual factors and their interactions. Accuracy of calculations was validated by load-deflection curves from physical testing. In addition to main effects of individual tyre materials and rim geometric factors, some two-factor interactions were shown to have significant impacts on the distribution of contact pressure between tyres and rims.
