TURNING FLOWS AT MOTORWAY SERVICE AREAS
The Transport Research Laboratory was requested to look at the factors affecting the turning flows at Motorway Service Areas, as part of a Highways Agency research project entitled 'Motorway junction layout to increase capacity and safety at low cost'. To this end, TRL carried out a questionnaire survey of motorists at two service stations, and also one-day video surveys at these two MSAs and six others, to supplement and compare with data collected by means of video surveys at four MSAs in December 1994. This report presents the results of this study. (A)
