THE STRUCTURE OF OCEAN TRANSPORT CHARGES

This paper attempts to estimate the relationship between the characteristics of commodities and the charges for shipping them. Its purpose is to provide a method for estimating such charges for use in models of world trade, to explain which goods will enter international trade and how much trade will take place in the commodity in general and between particular countries.
