FLOW AT INTERFACE OF TWO ANISOTROPIC SOIL ZONES

General expressions are derived for the angle at which equipotential and flow lines intersect in homogeneous anisotropic soil and for the angles at which a flow line meets the boundary between 2 different anisotropic zones. An equation is presented (which is a generalization of the equation: tan alpha sub 1/tan alpha sub 2 = k sub 1/ K sub 2, where alph a sub 1 and alpha sub 2 = the angles in zones 1 and 2, respectively, between a flow line and the normal to the interface; and k sub 1 and k sub 2 - the coefficients of permeability in the respective regions) which can be used to assist the sketching of correct flow-nets whether these are based on scale transformation or numerical procedures such as the finite difference and finite element techniques.
