THE ICE MARITIME BOARD

The Engineering Division of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) aims to increase professional knowledge, influence policy, develop professional competence, and promote good practice. The Maritime Board is just one of the ICE's Sector Boards. It not only brings together the activities of three maritime societies--Central Dredging Association, International Navigation Association, and Offshore Engineering Society--but also those of local governments. In addition, it provides a forum for discussions between ICE, the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The ICE Maritime Board meets four times a year. Items under discussion for 2000 include the impact of the Habitats Directive on ports and coastal developments, marine piling, the anticipated effects of increased storminess and sea level rise, and the repair and maintenance of reinforced concrete in the marine environment.
