NEW LAWS AFFECT BELT USE
A new law passed recently in Texas requires children younger than 15 to wear seat belts in the front and back seats of vehicles that weigh no more than one ton. In Texas, law enforcement officers use the seat belt law as a primary enforcement method. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, states that have standard enforcement seat belt laws have higher seat belt use rates. The average seat belt use rate in these states is 17% higher than in states with secondary enforcement laws.
