WORK STARTS ON GERMAN BOT TUNNEL
With financing recently completed, work worth Euro156 million (US$152 million) began in mid-March 2000 on Germany's first highway build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract, for a sunken tube tunnel under the Warnow River, in Rostock. The concession company will operate the 800-m tunnel for 30 years after the 42-month construction period. The project, including several kilometers of approach structures and toll plazas, calls for approximately DM414 million (US$206 million) of total financing, including DM83 million (US$41.3 million) of equity.
