LABORATORY TESTS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE TIES (SECTION 1)

LABORATORNYE ISPYTANIIA ZHELEZOBETONNYKH SHPAL (RAZDEL I)

Testing of concrete ties has attempted to verify design assumptions, utilizing both new and used ties. Among the factors studied: Loads producing cracks, loads destroying ties; characteristics and dimensions of permanent deformation of the tie and elastic deformations and stresses of ties. Testing includes simulation of the ballast under the tie base, and the application of static and pulsating loads. Determinations of fatigue life and bending moment are explained.
