USING TRAVEL SURVEYS AND EXPERIMENTS TO EXPLORE THE POTENTIAL IMPACT OF TRANSIT INFORMATION SYSTEMS ON MODE CHOICE
In this paper, the author examines the effects of transit information systems on the willingness of travelers to use transit. Both a travel survey and laboratory experiments were conducted . With the survey results and a customized stated preference design, the authors were able to : 1) determine which types of information are more important to a user; 2) examine if such systems change the users' perception of transit attributes; and, 3) assess user acceptance of transit information systems.
