MANITOBA.S MARINE CONTAINER TRAFFIC: TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS IN THE 1990S
Marine container (MC) use is growing in the 1990s due to a variety of factors, including multinational trade agreements, expanding overseas markets, and the implementation of new technologies. Understanding how many of these developments are transforming Manitoba's markets thereby increasing marine container commodity flows, is important for strengthening our business in the global marketplace, and creating a new competitive advantage. It also provides considerable insight into the new geographic influences that will likely shape our cultural and economic life in the decades ahead. By examining Manitoba's marine container traffic flows and volumes in the 1990s this paper identifies several problems in container logistics.
