NARROW MEDIAN, SHOULDERS FORCE EXPRESSWAY INTO THE AIR
The Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority is working on a plan to build elevated reversible lanes over a narrow median strip that would lead to downtown Tampa, Florida. The only way the authority could realize such a project is through a segmental precast box girder bridge construction. A three-lane reversible facility would be about 59 ft (18 m) wide and extend more than 6 ft (2 m) over each inside lane of the existing expressway. Preliminary plans call for about 6 mi (9.7 km) of elevated expressway in three sections.
