TWO VWS AND THE IMPALA GET TOP FRONT-CRASH SAFETY MARKS
Two model-year 2000 Volkswagen AG cars--the Jetta four-door compact and the Passat four-door medium-size car--and the General Motors Corporation Chevrolet Impala medium-size four-door all gained top five-star ratings for protecting both the driver and passenger in National Highway Transportation Safety Administration frontal crash tests. In new side-crash tests, the Ford Motor Company Windstar van with a front-seat side air bag and the Mazda Motor Corporation MPV van won five-star ratings for protecting both front- and rear-seat occupants. The Windstar van without a front-seat side air bag was given only a four-star rating for side-impact protection.
