The paper describes the operation of LT's Travel Information Call Centre and particularly the development of the ROUTES (Rail Omnibus Underground Travel Enquiry System) computer system which now supports the Call Centre functions. The financial justification for the investment in ROUTES is explained, as is the research which LT has conducted into the travel and revenue generation effects of information provision. Plans for further exploitation of the ROUTES system, including direct passenger access terminals, are also outlined. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD E104486.
