TREADVIEWTM: AUTOMATED WHEEL PROFILE MEASUREMENT
Machine vision systems offer a number of possibilities for automating and improving many aspects of railway inspection and maintenance. One such application developed by AEA Technology Rail is of particular relevance to wheelsets. TreadVIEWTM is a fully developed product that is already being used to automatically measure wheel profiles and make consistent recordings of critical profile characteristics. This paper describes the technical features of this system, shows some typical results, discusses system implementation and benefits, and examines some associated applications.
