VEHICLE NOISE EMISSION: EVALUATION OF TYRE/ROAD AND MOTOR-NOISE CONTRIBUTIONS
Knowledge of vehicle noise emission is important for traffic noise predictions. The noise emitted by a passenger car at low and medium speeds is composed of tyre/road noise and mechanically originated noise. For a vehicle running at constant speed, the level of each contribution is closely related to the speed and its mechanical characteristics (engine speed, engaged gear). In order to obtain information about these contributions, a simple method is proposed for evaluating them for a given configuration [engaged gear speed]. This paper describes the experimental disposition used for validating this method and first results ohtained in the case of passenger cars. For the covering abstract see IRRD E104312.
