RECYCLED ASPHALT PAVEMENT STUDIES 1998

UUSIOPAALLYSTETUTKIMUKSET 1998

Remixing method has been used in Finland since 1990. Use of Remixing has increased rapidly especially on roads where repaving is necessary due to rutting. Experiences so far are very positive. Because of that there is intention to use recycling methods also in the future. Influence of recycling to pavement quality and lifetime has not been studied comprehensively before. Practical experiences have been as guidelines for work on field. Decision if recycling can be applied in particular case has been done based on formal experience. The aim of this study was to investigate functional properties of recycled pavements and based on the results to give recommendations for use of recycling methods. The study was carried out in two phases. The main objects were to influence of rejuvenators quality and to influence of number of recycling times on pavement functional properties. Additionally methods for ageing of asphalt mixture in the laboratory were developed to correspond with ageing occurred during and between Remixworks. As result information concerning pavement hardening due to ageing was gained.
