THE REFINING OF GLACIAL TILL BY PELLETIZATION
MOREENIN JALOSTAMINEN PELLETOIMALLA
This research project is a part of a research programme. The project aims to promote the utili-zation of till as road construction material. Previous subprojects were focused on searching possibilities to decrease the content of fines by mechanical methods in crushing process. ln pelletization the excess of fine particles is chemically bound by cement to form larger ones so that the final grain size distribution would be applicable for road base and sub-base. The aim of this research project was to find out possibilities to utilize till in road base or sub-base by pel-letization. Targets were to research what kind of till is suitable for pelletization in general. What kind of pelletization process and equipment are needed. What kind and percentage of binder are needed to get till pellets usable in road base or sub-base. Finally the goal was to calculate practicability and economy of till pellets construction.
