USING PUBLIC PARTICIPATION TO IDENTIFY INTEGRATED TRANSPORT SOLUTIONS FOR METRO MANILA

A public participation process to address problems in the transport sector was applied in Metro Manila (The Philippines). The process utilized a series of 4 workshops involving 17-24 participants from a wide variety of transport interests. Participants included government agency, non-government organizations and private businesses. The process utilized group participatory techniques to ensure balanced communication between participants, the building of a sense of ownership of the ideas and a respect for different viewpoints. The participants identified 24 initiatives for the transport system. Participants valued the process, and conceptions about the transport system changed slightly. (A) The French title of this paper is: "Participation du public afin d'identifier des solutions pour le transport integre 'Metro-Manila'". For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD E201484.
