THE EFFECT OF SIZE ON TESTS BY LARGE DIRECT SHEAR APPARATUS
In this paper, based on the results of tests, the effects of the size of large direct shear apparatus are analyzed through axial symmetrical finite element method. The results show that the frictions caused by the wall of shear box will influence the distributions of stresses in specimens and the normal pressure stresses on the shear plane. It is stated that the influences of frictions should be eliminated during tests through large direct shear apparatus.
