KEEPING YOU ROLLING SAFELY
This article discusses safe use practices recommended when operating a pneumatic compaction roller. Safe operation of a compactor begins with loading and includes not only operation, but maintenance. The article also describes a safety videotape offered by the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association (CIMA) entitled, "Roller Compactor Safety," that is intended to serve as a back-up for safety manuals and covers topics such as how to safely check for hydraulic leaks, steps to safely jump a battery, fire prevention tips, and procedures for tire inspection. The video takes workers through all safety aspects from loading to operation to shop and gives particulars for different types of compactors.
