AIR TRAVEL DECISION MAKING, THE IMPORTANCE OF FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAMS
Several factors have been found to influence air travelers in their air carrier decision making process. Literature in marketing and transportation management report mixed results with respect to the extent frequent flyer membership programs influence air travelers in their air carrier perceptions and in selecting a particular airline over another in their decision making process. The research covered in this paper addresses the question related to the relative importance of frequent flyer programs. The thrust of the research focuses on the extent to which the degree of loyalty to a given airline serves as a barrier to enter for new carriers into established markets.
