THE PRESENT SITUATION AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION

Concern about environmental constraints, risk to the public and infrastructure funding means that transportation changes are unavoidable, therefore, the decisions that are made about intermodalism should be in the interest of the people and should concentrate on improving efficiency. The paper discusses the steps that are being taken by both the International Road Union and the European Intermodal Association to advance intermodal transportation in order to meet the true needs of transportation in Europe.
