EXPERIENCES FROM METRO SCHEMES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

The article recognizes that an urban rail system is an ecologically and economically efficient way of moving large volumes of passengers in big cities. It discusses the many financial uncertainties associated with these capital intensive projects that require careful planning, project management and effective operational management policies. Also recognized is the necessity of integration with other transit modes in a sensitive manner that recognizes the right of choice for travelers.
