URBAN TRANSPORT AND THE ENVIRONMENT: ITALIAN CASE STUDIES
Transportation has an important role in the social and economic life, but, as it depends almost totally on fossil fuel, it has a considerable energy conservation and environmental impact. This paper discusses some innovative solutions produced by the CNR-PFT2 working group for the control and reduction of pollution levels. The CNR-PFT2 is the second special project on transportation research founded by the Italian National Research Council. It provides, at a national level, a meeting of working groups with different backgrounds and experiences in order to develop a well defined research program in terms of contents, cost and time scale.
