ROAD MANAGEMENT: INTRODUCTORY REPORT
Provides background information on road management and a brief introduction to a number of supporting themes, such as: training for management; customer defined levels of service; planning and budgeting; asset management; preventive maintenance; and, quality systems, performance indicators and maintenance by contract. Common issues identified include: managing the road network as a business; recognizing the role of the road user as customer; setting and monitoring performance indicators and levels of service; need for additional funding for maintenance and its source: the customer; training road engineers to become better managers and communicators; recognizing the role of the private sector in the maintenance and management of roads.
