THIN-LIFT HMA OVERLAYS
From rural roads to neighborhood streets to a highly trafficked entryway to Disney World, very thin-lift hot-mix asphalt (HMA) surfaces are providing an economical alternative to milling and resurfacing in situations calling for preventive maintenance to extend pavement life while improving ride and skid resistance. Thin-lift surfaces are a good choice for roads and streets that are generally in decent condition but are starting to show some age. Proper aggregate selection and plant mixing with good quality control will allow successful placement of mix as thin as 35 lb/sq yd (19 lb/sq m). Thin-lift HMA production and placement requires no special processes or equipment.
