ACCURATE DENSITY MEASUREMENT IS A KEY TO SUPERPAVE PERFORMANCE
Florida now uses core samples for quality control in Superpave projects. While coring is more time-consuming and labor-intensive, Florida has concluded, based on studies conducted on seven road sections over 2 years, that nuclear gage results are inconsistent and must be correlated with actual in-place densities. In addition to using core sampling for quality control, Florida has increased its density requirements, increased lift thicknesses, and simplified its specifications.
